Recreational Certification Courses
Introducing the game at the community and recreational level
The following courses are designed to familiarize yourself with the teaching basics at the recreational level.
Community Tennis Volunteer
This fully virtual training is intended to provide community leaders and volunteers with the framework to organize quality tennis sessions in their community. This course will also provide Sport Safety education to participants and prepare them for the Instructor course.

Instructor
Instructors are trained to introduce players to the game using Progressive tennis in group lessons (1.0 – 2.5 player rating) in tennis clubs, parks, school gyms, and on community courts. The mission of the instructor course is to develop instructors who will stimulate players’ growth and retention, and promote tennis as a sport for life, by delivering a quality tennis program in a safe and positive environment.

- Minimum player rating of 3.0
- No prior certification required
- Commitment of 5 days over two weekends to complete the course
Club Professional Certification Courses
Delivering club programming and contributing to the growth of the tennis industry
The following courses are designed to familiarize yourself with life as a club professional and to learn the intricacies of tennis club management. These courses involve both on and off court training components.
Club Professional 1
In this course, coaches develop the skills required to become an entry-level assistant pro at an indoor facility or a community club leader. They can deliver private and group lessons (1.0 – 3.5 player rating), design basic lesson content, run introductory programs (socials, round robins, and tournaments) and offer good customer service to club members.
- Minimum age of 17
- Minimum player rating of 4.5
- 150 hours of tennis teaching experience OR passed the Instructor course with honours
- Commitment of 9 days over three months to complete the course
Club Professional 2
Coaches develop the skills required to become a solid, well-rounded club pro at an indoor facility or a leader at a seasonal facility or community club. This course imparts the knowledge and competencies required to ensure the development of red, orange, and green ball participants as well as U12 recreational and competitive players, and recreational and competitive adults both in singles and doubles (up to a 4.5 player rating). It also provides a sound understanding of the business side of tennis.
- Minimum age of 20
- Minimum player rating of 5.0
- Two years full-time at a year-round facility, or five years at a seasonal facility or community club
- Club Professional 1 certification
- Commitment of 16 days over one year to complete the course
Club Professional 3
Coaches learn skills required to occupy the position of Tennis Director or Head Professional with a strong understanding of the business of tennis and clubs in addition to becoming a leader in staff supervision and professional development. This course develops proficiencies and competencies in management, programming, service excellence, finance, as well as marketing and promotions within a club. Additionally, this course develops the skills and attributes related to training and upgrading the on-court skills of professional staff.
- Minimum age of 21
- Minimum player rating of 5.0
- Five years full-time at a large year-round community club or seasonal club as Coach 2 or Club Professional 2
- Club Professional 2 certification
- Commitment of 12 days over one year to complete the course
Performance Certification Courses
Developing and Leading Players in their Competitive Journey
If you are interested in becoming a performance coach at the provincial, national or international level, these courses will enable you to nurture players along their development pathway.
Coach 2
This coaching course is suitable for committed coaches working with young provincial and national competitive players who are continuing their development. The Coach 2 course focuses mainly on building a strong foundation from a technical, tactical, physical, and psychological standpoint that will allow the player to maximize their potential and transition to the next level without limitation.
- Minimum age of 20
- Minimum player rating of 5.5
- Club Pro 2 or recognition of coaching competencies
- Commitment of 20 days over one year to complete the course
Coach 3
This course is suitable for committed and engaged coaches who are working mostly with top competitive national junior players and who are initiating them to the early stages of the International Junior Circuit. It focuses on the role and knowledge of a High Performance Coach as well as the requirements needed to help players progress and meet international standards.
- Minimum age of 21
- Minimum player rating of 5.5
- Coach 2 or recognition of coaching competencies
- Commitment of 30 days over one year to complete the course
Coach 4
This course is meant for committed and engaged coaches who have a track record of working with Top 100 players on the International Junior Circuit and/or players transitioning to the professional ranks on the ITF World Tennis Tour. The goal is to expand their leadership skills and hone their ability to apply their wealth of knowledge to their own set of values.
- Minimum age of 21
- Minimum player rating of 5.5
- Coach 3 and completion of Advanced Coaching Diploma by NSI.
- Commitment of two years to complete the course
