On the girls’ side, the draw held as the first three seeds found their way into the top three. Scarlett Nicholson (1) easily qualified for the main draw but ran into a bit of trouble in the later rounds. To raise the winner’s trophy, she had to survive three three-set matches.
In the final, she was pitted against Josie Usereau (2) of Québec, who had played only one three-setter at the event. At the outcome of some fantastic tennis, Nicholson gained the upper hand and claimed the title (7-5, 4-6, 6-2).
In doubles, Usereau fought to avenge her loss in singles with partner Janic Durocher, but the pair was overpowered by favourites Iulia Cristina Bucea and Anastasia Kavounov of Ontario (7-5, 3-6, 10-7).
On the boys’ side, Stewart Bernard Aronson (1) of British Columbia defeated Stefan Simeunovic (5) of Ontario to take the top honours (6-3 et 6-4).
In the very first round of the championship draw, Simeunovic ousted Quebecer Haitam Aboufirassi (3).
Still, Aboufirassi didn’t go home emptyhanded: with Junghee You, he won the doubles event over first seeds Aronson and Aleksandar Mitric of Ontario.
