There is more exciting junior action coming up on Canadian soil as next week, IGA Stadium in Montreal plays host to the Americas qualifying for the Davis Cup Juniors, Billie Jean King Cup Juniors, and U14 World Team Tennis events.
Canada last hosted the qualifying in 2019, when Marina Stakusic, Victoria Mboko, and Kayla Cross were all on the Canadian Billie Jean King Cup Juniors team. All three are representing Canada this week at the professional level in the Billie Jean King Cup.
ITF Results
With Canadian juniors primarily focused on the national championships, it was a quieter month for Canucks on the ITF Junior Tour.
There were still a couple of Canadian results of note. Layla Nota picked up the biggest win by a Canadian over the last four weeks, claiming the girls singles title at the J60 event in Bayamon, Puerto Rico. The 16-year-old knocked off three seeds, including the No. 2 seed in the quarter-finals, on her way to her first ITF Junior singles title.
Matthew Jian Hao Lee was also a champion in March, winning the J30 boys doubles title Tlaxcala, Mexico with American Taylor Yarnell. It was also the Canadian’s first ITF title.
Fernando Mendoza nearly made it three titles for Canadians in March, reaching the boys doubles final at a J60 event in Panama with India’s Rushikesh Sonawane, but they were defeated in the final.
Rankings Update
Three Canadians remain ranked inside the Top 100 on the ITF junior rankings: Nadia Lagaev (no. 39), Nicolas Arseneault (no. 63), and Emma Dong (no. 88). In addition, there are 12 total players from Canada ranked inside the Top 300, including 8 boys.
