Tennis Canada announced on Friday that Dan Xu has been elected to its Board of Directors during its recent Annual General Meeting, replacing Matthew Akman who has completed his mandate.

“We are delighted to welcome Dan Xu from Alberta to the Tennis Canada Board of Directors,” said Peter Kruyt, Tennis Canada’s Chair of the Board. “Dan brings a unique blend of expertise and experience primarily as a prominent leader in the banking industry. She is joining Tennis Canada at a pivotal time, as we continue to build great talent in Canada and encourage more investment in access to tennis facilities. I’d also like to thank Matthew Akman for his always thoughtful contributions at board meetings and his continued interest in our sport, and wish him the best moving forward.”

“I am deeply privileged and filled with excitement to be joining the esteemed Board of Tennis Canada,” said Xu. “As someone who has a passion for tennis and a deep appreciation for the values it embodies, I cannot express enough gratitude for this opportunity. I am determined to use my experience, expertise and enthusiasm to contribute to this esteemed Board and support its mission to grow and nurture tennis in Canada.”

Xu brings a wealth of experience to the Board, working as a prominent leader in the banking industry for over 16 years. She currently serves as the Director and Group Lead of Commercial Banking at Scotiabank, where she leads the Alberta North region. Her incredible skills in credit analysis, risk management and team leadership paired with her industry and market knowledge will make her a valuable asset.

Beyond her work, Xu is tremendously committed to giving back to the community. She has served as a board member and volunteer with a number of business organizations, including the Association for Corporate Growth, the Hong Kong Canada Business Association and Edmonton Women in Finance. From volunteering at local food banks to participating in fundraising events for non-profits, Xu has demonstrated that she always gives her maximum effort for causes that she’s passionate about.

“With my unwavering belief in the potential of tennis to inspire, unite and empower, I am confident that together, we can create a bright and prosperous future for tennis in Canada,” said Xu.

Xu joins the Board of Directors chaired by Peter Kruyt: James B. Bagnell, Penny Ballem, Jennifer Bishop, Richard Harris, Mohamed Ismath, Jordan Jacobs, Sébastien LeBlanc, and Josée Noiseux, Sam Sebastian and Ula Ubani.
