As the calendar flips over to December, the 2024 season is quickly approaching its conclusion. While events remain on the ITF Masters calendar, the season in Canada came to a close in November with one final ITF event in Victoria, BC.

With the season winding down, it’s time to have a look back not just at the last month, but at the 2024 year of Masters Tennis. Here is the monthly Masters tennis update by Abrysvo.

ITF Victoria

The final ITF Masters stop in Canada came in early November on the west coast as British Columbia’s capital played host to the Wilson Victoria Masters ITF event.

Once again, the hosts dominated, claiming 14 of 15 trophies available in Victoria.

Five players doubled up with singles and doubles titles. Ian Slater (30+), Mohamed Azmy (50+), and Johane Mui (50+) each won both titles in their divisions. Cristina Mir Baucells and Gillian Shea each won a singles and doubles title but across multiple age groups. Baucells won the 30+ doubles and the 40+ singles, while Shea won the 60+ doubles and the 70+ singles.

Only Art Hobbs of Singapore managed to break up the Canadian sweep as he won the 60+ men’s singles title. Eva Miller of Germany also shared the 30+ women’s doubles title with Baucells.

Overall, Canada played host to 10 ITF events in 2024. The hosts won 221 of a possible 261 titles at their home events, with the best tournament coming in Ottawa where Canadians won all 20 titles. They won at least 90 per cent of the titles at seven of the 10 events and never less than half at any ITF Masters event held in Canada.
