Tennis Canada is excited to unveil the winners of the 2024 Masters Excellence Awards. All the recipients, including the Team and Individual Awards, as well as the Event of the Year and Service of the Game Awards, highlighted what was a brilliant 2024 season for Masters tennis in Canada.

INDIVIDUAL AND TEAM AWARDS

Team Canada had a banner year at the 2024 ITF World Team Championships in Turkey, winning two medals at the event, with the gold medal going to the Bitsy Grant Cup Men’s Over 75 team and the silver to the Jack Crawford Cup Men’s Over 70 team. Both teams were presented with the 2024 Masters Teams Award. The Men’s Over 75 team was comprised of Tim Griffin, Chris Burr, and Joe Forrayi, while the Men’s Over 70 team consisted of Keith Porter, Brian Millar, and Daryl Howes-Jones.

The 2024 Masters Individual Award was given to Millar, who reached the semi-finals of the Men’s Over 70 singles, Burr, who made it to the Men’s Over 75 singles semis, and Griffin, who was a Men’s Over 75 singles finalist. Also receiving an Individual Award for their performances on the world stage were Horst Dammholz and Raynold D’Aoust, who lost in the Men’s Over 85 doubles final, and the duo of Burr and Griffin, who won the Men’s Over 75 doubles World Championship.

EVENT OF THE YEAR AND SERVICE OF THE GAME

The Event of the Year Award, voted by the players, went to the Ottawa Lawn Tennis and Lawn Bowling Club and the West Ottawa Club, which held its inaugural ITF Masters tournament. The organizing committee produced a fabulous event that attracted nearly 200 participants.

The Service to the Game Award was presented to Tim Griffin, who was instrumental in implementing Tennis Canada’s Masters Partnership Program.
