It is no secret that Canada is becoming a tennis powerhouse. But occasions like the Billie Jean King Cup serve as further opportunities to drive the point home.

On day one of the inaugural Billie Jean King Cup Finals, Team Canada presented by Sobeys, despite being short-handed, made a statement with an upset win over France.

Canada was the major underdog in the tie against the defending champions, but they started out on the right foot courtesy of Francoise Abanda.
