As the Canadian winter drags on, it is not uncommon for many citizens of the Great White North to dream of following the birds and flying south. For tennis fans, that escapism often involves watching the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, California.

Well, this year that event is taking place in October, while the weather is still nice in most of Canada, rather than the dreary month of March. But that does not mean Canadians won’t be California dreaming as they watch their favourite plays duke it out in the desert sun over the coming days.

Tennis Paradise

Servebot Swag

During the National Bank Open in Toronto this summer, Reilly Opelka stirred up some discussion by confronting, challenging, and even cracking jokes about the term “servebot” that is often applied to himself and John Isner among others.

And if you didn’t think Opelka himself was going to get in on the fun…

Queen B(ianca)

Canada’s own Bianca Andreescu is back in Indian Wells after her breakthrough victory in 2019. Upon her return, she found something special waiting for her.

Stay Classy, Andy Murray

Last week while competing in San Diego, Andy Murray decided to have a little bit of fun with his personal grooming, immediately inviting comparison to a famous San Diego personality.

Murray later looked to capitalize on his Twitter popularity with an awkward request that he probably really hopes his wife won’t see.

Even mom joined in.

In the end, the story had a happy ending.
